The ocean science disciplines have embraced geospatial technologies as evident in most marine field or biological job listings requiring or prefering Geographic Information Science as a qualification to apply. Forty-two University of Hawai'i Marine Science Option Program Seminar (MARE 100) undergraduate students were shown how programs, agencies, and companies in Hawai'i are currently using geospatial technologies to discover, create, and share marine science information. The students were taken on a virtual field trip to the Spatial Data Analysis Labs and encourage to explore his/her interest in geospatial technologies by enrolling in a Geographic Information Science or Remote Sensing course while attending the University of Hawai'i at Hilo. The students were also encouraged to consider graduate school options and informed of the challenges marine environments impose upon geospatial data collection and analysis.
