MISSION STATEMENT:

Collaboratively expand and sustain Hawaii’s competitiveness in new areas of environmental science and technology research and education, while improving relationships amongst researchers and the local community.

VISION STATEMENT:

A prosperous and sustainable Hawaii that is powered by innovations flowing from the latest transformative scientific ideas, with a diverse workforce among the most scientifically and technically competent in the world.

STRATEGIC GOALS:

The broad specific goals of the IMUA III include the following:


  • Integration of diverse new geo-spatially referenced data acquisitions related to the ecological functionality, genomics and metabolomics of endemic, heritage and invasive species;
  • Data manipulation including comprehensive data management, advanced data visualization, and modeling;
  • Expanding high speed and capacity of Cyber-connectivity;
  • Integration of diverse existing geo-spatially referenced data sets related to the ecological functionality and genomics of endemic, heritage and invasive species; State-wide coordination of STEM pre-college education and undergraduate research experiences;
  • Educating a new and ethnically diverse generation of citizens trained in science and technology;
  • Increasing the quality and quantity of the Hawaii's science and technology workforce, with more women and underrepresented minorities contributing to these increases;
  • Increasing the quality and quantity of the Hawaii's science and technology workforce, with more women and underrepresented minorities contributing to these increases;
  • Changing institutional organization infrastructure such that the standard conduct of the university research enterprise will include pro-active local community outreach and integration with socio-cultural dynamics of the Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander.
